What is UV-DTF?
Everything you need to know about this innovative print technology
UV transfer in a nutshell
UV transfer (also known as UV DTF or UV Direct-to-Film transfer) is an innovative print method where designs are printed on special transfer film with UV-curable inks and then applied without heat to various hard surfaces.
Unlike traditional DTF transfers that require heat and pressure, UV DTF transfers can be applied like stickers to almost any hard surface. This technology combines the benefits of digital printing with the flexibility of sticker application, making it possible to personalize products from small runs without setup costs.
UV-DTF transfers are suitable for various hard materials such as glass, metal, plastic and more
How does UV transfer work?
The process consists of multiple steps to ensure a durable, high-quality result
Create design
Prepare a digital design in graphic software following our specifications.
Print on A film
A specialized UV printer prints the design (including white ink and varnish) onto the self-adhesive A film. UV LEDs cure the ink instantly.
Laminate with B film
A transparent B film with stronger adhesive is laminated over the cured design for transfer stability.
Prepare transfer
Remove the A film so the design is ready to be transferred onto the final product.
Apply to product
Press the design firmly onto the surface, then carefully remove the B film leaving the ink behind.
Technology behind UV-DTF printing
Ultraviolet (UV) DTF printing combines UV curing with razor-sharp prints. The specialty inks contain photoinitiators that cure instantly under UV light. Only the printed ink bonds to the material, leaving no background film and enabling freestanding logos.
UV-curable ink
The ink contains light-sensitive hardeners that cure instantly under UV light. During printing the built-in UV LED lamps cure the ink immediately, allowing us to transfer prints onto hard surfaces with excellent durability.
Only the printed ink adheres to the material, meaning no background film remains. You can create freestanding logos and designs that integrate perfectly with the surface.
The film system
A film
The special self-adhesive film that carries the design during production.
B film
A transparent application film with strong adhesive that assists with the final transfer.
Advantages of UV-DTF
Durability
UV cured inks are highly scratch, water and UV resistant.
Versatility
Works on many materials and curved surfaces where direct printing is challenging.
No heat required
Apply at room temperature, perfect for heat-sensitive items.
Vibrant colors
Bright, sharp prints with a tactile relief effect.
Cost-effective for small runs
No setup costs and economically viable from just one piece.
Scratch resistant
Strong adhesive ensures long-lasting adhesion on hard surfaces.
Which materials are suitable?
UV DTF transfers are designed for hard, smooth and non-porous surfaces. They even adhere to irregular or curved shapes.
Glass
bottles, glasses, mirrors, mugs
Metal
pens, labels, nameplates
Plastic
phone cases, displays, acrylic
Wood
smooth wood, decor
Ceramic
tiles, mugs, decor
Leather
accessories, bags, belts
Note: Not suitable for textiles
This method is not suitable for textiles or flexible fabrics. Use traditional DTF for garments.
How do you apply a UV-DTF print?
Application is almost as easy as placing a sticker
